Recently we have seen an increase in theft from motor vehicles, in over 80 percent the vehicles were left unsecured with property visible. Suburbs that have seen a spate of opportunist type crime include Brightwater, Mountain Creek and Maroochydore.
Maroochydore Police would like to remind motorists to secure their vehicles to deter opportunistic thieves.
We advise motorists to avoid giving criminals the opportunity to break into their cars by fully securing vehicles and placing valuables out of sight. When possible, park in areas that are well lit, near CCTV or in public view. Also, a number of vehicles appeared to be family cars. We would like to remind parents to double check before leaving a vehicle, to ensure the car is not left unlocked accidently.
By employing these basic crime prevention strategies, motorists will significantly reduce the likelihood of being a victim of crime, and protect their property from loss or damage.
